Mark Gimson's career in water infrastructure has been anything but conventional — and that's precisely what makes him one of the most well-rounded voices in the control valve industry.
It started with a career in Mechanical Engineering in the UK, where Mark learned the trade from the ground up. He studied at Basford Hall College, now Nottingham College, specializing in Building Services and working as a design and project engineer. That hands-on foundation followed him when he crossed the Atlantic to Canada, landing first in the consulting world before finding his true calling with a Manufacturer's Agent specializing in waterworks, control valves, and water treatment systems. It was here he cut his teeth — learning not just how these systems work, but why they matter.
From there, a move into Technical Sales opened a new chapter entirely. Mark spent years travelling the world — promoting control valves, establishing agent networks, and representing the industry at trade shows across the globe. The experience gave him something rare: a genuinely international perspective on how water systems are designed, specified, and maintained across wildly different markets and climates.
Never content to stand still, Mark pursued Sales and Marketing Management at the University of British Columbia — and put that knowledge to immediate use, taking the helm of the marketing department at a Western Canadian control valve manufacturer. When that company was acquired, the industry took notice. Mark was recruited to lead marketing at the North American market leader in water industry control valves, a role that reflects both the breadth of his technical knowledge and the strength of his reputation.
Today, Mark is a sought-after speaker and educator on all things control valve — having taught operator training classes to audiences around the world. He brings something to every room he walks into that no textbook can teach: the view from the project engineer, the sales floor, the trade show booth, and the boardroom, all at once. His technical articles are frequently published in trade magazines and he has also become a decent photographer and video editor.
